At Sunnyside, we actively use ICT for student’s learning

ICT Education

Now that ICT is seen in many part of our daily life. We used only pens and papers in conventional education, but we all know our children will be using a lot of ICT in their life, in their profession.
We of course not deny the learning using pens and papers, but we think it is important that students know there are many ways of learning, collecting resources for learning and those are found using ICT.
We would like our school to be the place for the children where they feel excited to come, place where students can learn something new.

Reaching out to limitless learning resource

There is so much you can do using ICT. If you would like to collect informations, what you can find on internet is limitless. We can talk online with friends who live on the other side of our planet.(just hard to believe what it was like just 20 years ago!)
Using PC, you can create presentation slides of your learning, you can express your ideas more effectively than hand writing materials.
At Primary, we use RazKids, students can practice reading, record their voice and can get the feedback from teachers. Teachers can keep track of their students progress. There are just so much potential to make the learning more fun, more exciting using ICT.

More Creative learning with ICT

Our young students are called “digital native”, they have been exposed to various digital device such as smart phone, tablets, they grew up watching Youtube. In a way, ICT devices are nothing new to the children, it is quite natural for them to use them for their learning.
And we all know, ICT can take us to the world. Learning opportunities of the digital tools are another limitless world. Sometimes, even a student who is not good at face to face communication can express himself well with using ICT device. How children like to learn should be unique as well. We think learning with ICT enables students to express themselves in more creative ways.

Some parens and teachers sometimes feel “unsafe” when letting children using ICT. Yes, we all know it can be used wrongly. But it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t let the students use them. There are so many positive side in the learning with ICT.
We, as a school, see it important to let the children learn what is so called “internet literacy”. What is hidden behind “convenience”. Anonymity doesn’t mean you can say the things to hurt poeple. “Academic honesty” is to know that you are now allowed just to copy & paste what other people have created.
We expect our students to utilize ICT with high morality and we are setting “internet literacy education” as one of very important aspect at our school.

ICT for communication with Parents

We believe that close communication with parents benefit student’s growth in a great deal. We always would like to share about students school life, their learning. The software “Class Dojo” offers opportunities that teachers and parents communicate about children sharing photos and videos. Parents can reach their homeroom teachers by just sending message from their smartphone anytime.
